- Don't: If you can't afford it, do not build a home office.

Even though the items you purchase for your home office are tax deductible, if you do not have the extra cash to build one, do not do it. You must not borrow any money to build a home office, but at the same time if you have the extra money to construct and furnish one, you should.

A home office may sound like a good idea and is an eventual goal of yours, do not borrow money to finish a project such as this. In a time when you need to be starting and building a business, you do not need to add on any unnecessary expenditures and debt.

Instead of going in debt for a home office, just set up your work space in a spare bedroom or any spare area of your home that is private and you can work efficiently such as your basement or garage. You can set up the needed workspace for just a couple of hundred bucks instead of spending thousands on constructing a home office.

- Don't: No Television

I know it is tempting to get into your recliner with a laptop with the TV on in front of you or have a TV on in the same room that you are working in, but do not do this. This will do nothing but kill your work efficiency and waste much need time by distracting you.

You must prioritize and focus on your work and business. You must avoid the boob tube (TV) while working.

- Don't: You can not work in the middle of distractions

I know you want to work in the same area or room where your kids are playing or your family is socializing, but you must not do this. Since you will not work in an environment such as this, this situation will not work.

You have to make sure to separate yourself from everyone else that is in the home. It that is impossible, you may have to leave the home and work somewhere else that day such as a coffee shop or your local library.
