What to do with repeat visitors.

A reader of one of my articles posted an interesting question as a comment. I reproduce it and my answer here:

Melanie: I was wondering if you had any thoughts on how to evaluate repeat visitors to a website, specifically why they were visiting again. I know some people have surveys and popups but those seem to be more annoying than anything. Do you have any other ideas on how to evaluate these users? Specifically I know of a particular ip address that has visited my website over 100 times.

The key reason for tracking repeat visitors is you want to know their names and if possible, their faces too. Some steps I suggest include:

1) Put up a Web 2.0 widget on your blog. Widgets will point back to visitors' Web 2.0 accounts where you will know your visitors' profile.

2) E-mail some interesting questions to your subscribers and encourage your subscribers to reply to you. Encourage blog commenting also.

3) Get more involved in Facebook and other social sites. Observe friends with similar interests. They are your most likely repeat visitors if you can get their attention with new content and stuff.

4) Personally greet them and say you know them because they visited or downloaded this and that. You project yourself as personally remembering them for past actions and that gives them a good feeling you are an attentive friend.

You're not going to know everyone in the world, but if you know a few that can form a "critical mass" and elevate their status as peers and become your potential sales force, you gain leverage.

Simple 6-step process to writing your own e-book.

One of the simplest paths to gain standing, leads, credibility and trust from your clients is to write your own e-book.

Many people are intimidated by the idea of creating their own e-books but the truth is, the process is really straight-forward and it can be terrifically profitable. If you’re already involved in activities such as blogging, article marketing and making relations with newsletters, an e-book is just one step beyond in the entire process but can truly give your credibility rating an additional boost.

Bear in mind that for an e-book to work the way in which you need it to, it must truly look at the issues, concerns, or needs of your market. The content must be top-notch. Here are 6 steps to writing your own e-book:

1. Select a subject for your target market. Don't make this into a huge product. Pick something relatively narrow within a major topic. For example, if the main topic is Internet Marketing, select something that fits within that category like article marketing, or you might go even farther and simplify it down to "keyword research for article marketing".

2. Brainstorm. Write down each idea you have, walk away and come back and write more. Put down everything and anything for now.

5. Put all of your organized ideas and research into a particularly long article of at least thirty pages. This is your e-book!

6. Get a second opinion. Probabilities are you'll spend rather a lot of time on this enterprise. Make sure that you step back every once in a while to give yourself a break. And when you're near the end, ask somebody else to read it for a more objective opinion. Whether it's your mate, better half or a fellow marketer, ensure you get a good, honest critique and, if possible, an edit of your work.

Once you are finished, you can either sell your e-book from your blog or site or you can offer it free of charge for people who sign up, the goal of which is to build your list.

If you decide on the first option, you'll have to line up a payment system. You don't have to charge a lot for your e-book to earn income and as it doesn't cost anything to make the book (if you do not count the time you spend on it) so anything you sell will be a profit.

So now are you ready to draft your own e-book?

Know your rights - PLR, MRR, RR.

I remember a subscriber once asked me what the difference was between all the different "Rights" products we all see on the market.

The main "Rights" you'll find are Private Label Rights (PLR), Master Resale Rights (MRR), and Resale Rights (RR). I'll give you the basic meaning of each of the rights, but read any license agreements that come with the products you order, because some authors may include different guidelines.

Private Label Rights give you the most flexibility with a product. You're allowed to edit and manipulate the information as much as you like and put your own name on the product. This is one of the fastest ways to create a product.

If it's a written product, you'll generally get the Word .doc file, which allows you to easily edit and improve the content. If it's an audio product, you'll generally get the MP3 or WAV file and can add your own introduction and conclusion to promote yourself and your products.

Master Resale Rights allow you to resell the product and keep all the profit. These rights often allow you to offer the Master Resale Rights and Resale Rights to your customers. That allows your customers to follow in your footsteps and resell the product as well.

Resale Rights are the least flexible. If you own the Resale Rights to a product, you have the right to sell the product and keep the profit, but you can’t offer your customers the same rights. You have the rights to sell the product, that's it.

Owning rights to a product can be very profitable. If you have a choice, Private Label Rights are the best rights to buy. Owning the PLR for a product allows you to resell the product as is, create a new product almost instantly and then offer your customers any of the rights you choose.
