Learn how to become an international importer and trader.

Attention eBay sellers, are you currently importing products from other countries to sell them in others, elsewhere or online?

If you are not doing so, could it be the next step for you to expand your eBay business by sourcing for more goods of interesting value from emerging manufacturing powerhouses like China and India?

Or how about Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia where the merchandise has such strong 'ethnic' or 'exotic' flavor that they are a natural draw for tourists whenever they set foot on these countries? Why not 'push' those goods right in front of their eyes before they think they have to fly half a globe to get them?

That has always been the power of eBay since it's inception...the power to fulfill highly individualistic and eclectic tastes in consumerism.

You see, the countries mentioned above DO lack marketing expertise and channels today. Any mutual trade agreements with these countries tend to be made concrete at the highest level, that is, between governments, most of the time, as you may be aware in the news.

Fortune 500 companies that have the money and manpower to set up shop anywhere in the world would have already done so before you realize just how advanced China has grown over the years. I recently had the opportunity to speak to a couple of Chinese nationals and I am simply stunned by their description of the fast-changing landscape in their hometowns. Let's just say they have 1-Gbps fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) coverage...

3rd-world countries always have a larger room from growth, and more importing of raw materials and resources than exporting to deal with. Nonetheless, they always have their own unique stuff to share with the rest of the world, and this is where you come in to fill the lack of marketing know-how for them.

It all started with Walter Scheu.

Walter Scheu is a rabbit farmer from the backwoods of North Carolina. He is about the unlikeliest person you want to learn international trade from, the last person in the world you would ever think would be importing products from foreign countries and selling them on eBay BUT...he is doing it, and making a profit selling the goods on eBay.

His wife Ursula and he run a little family farm in Asheboro, NC called Foxburrow Farms. Last year he needed a special tool for his farm and he found it on eBay. After buying the tool, he discovered that there was money to be made in this if they could find them at a good price. This started an 18-month journey that led him to researching, finding and later importing these tools from China and selling them on eBay at a very nice profit. He has since sold hundreds of these expensive tools on eBay.

Walter wanted to share his experience with others, but he had never sold or created information before. So he got together with James Jones and recorded a series of audio files. It includes a transcript so you can read of all the steps he went through to import his product. In simple folksy language, he reveals all the steps he went through, the mistakes he made, and finally the resources and services he found that did most of the work for him and took away the risk.

The Quick Start Course to Importing includes MP3 audio files you can listen to, and a complete transcript in case you prefer to read it. You also get some special reports like:

* An importing cheat sheet,
* A report on how not to get ripped off by the wrong people,
* A global directory of overseas suppliers,
* A report on working with customs brokers and lots more.

This is a very nice package and excellent value. You owe it to yourself to trade with ANY countries (not just China) at a level very few people have attained so you can get ahead in this virtually untapped area.

Pursuit Of Happiness No. 3: Look beyond yourself to achieve happiness

The spiritual leader of Tibetans believes that compassion for others is central to being happy, as Gary Hayden finds out.

This is the third in a series of articles about happiness. In previous weeks I considered the views of two ancient philosophers: Epicurus and Epictetus. Epicurus believed that the key to happiness is pleasure. Epictetus taught that we can only be happy when we learn to accept life's trials and disappointments cheerfully.

Both of these philosophies seem quite inward-looking. Does this mean that happiness is essentially a selfish pursuit? The Dalai Lama thinks not. He believes "we cannot be truly happy without compassion".

THE DALAI LAMA

The spiritual leader of the Tibetan people is known as the Dalai Lama. Tibetan Buddhists believe that each successive Dalai Lama is a tulku, or reincarnation of the previous one.

The present Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso (from 1935), is the 14th in a line which stretches back to the 16th century. Since 1959 he has lived in exile in Dharamsala, India, due to the Chinese invasion of Tibet.

He has travelled extensively, spreading Buddhist teachings throughout the world, and is the first Dalai Lama to have visited the West. His tireless efforts on behalf of world peace and human rights earned him the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989.

ON HAPPINESS

The Dalai Lama places an enormous value on happiness. He has even written a book on the subject: The Art Of Happiness by HH Dalai Lama and Howard Cutler.

Central to his philosophy is the idea that you cannot achieve true happiness if you are self-absorbed. Personal fulfilment comes only when you look beyond yourself and develop a compassionate attitude towards others.

There are two types of compassion. One is based on emotional attachment, and extends only to family, friends and suchlike. The other is not based on attachment, and has a much broader scope. It extends to all humankind.

The Dalai Lama illustrates this second type of compassion by an example. Imagine you see a fish writhing with a hook in its mouth. You may experience a feeling of not being able to bear its pain. The compassion you feel is not based on any special bond of friendship with the animal, but simply on your identification with its suffering.

In the same way, you can feel compassion for other people whether or not you are emotionally attached to them. "Genuine compassion is based on the rationale that all human beings have an innate desire to be happy and overcome suffering, just like myself," said the Dalai Lama.

According to the Dalai Lama, this all-encompassing compassion is an important component of personal happiness and fulfilment. But if you learn to identify with the pain that others feel, isn't there a danger that you will be overwhelmed by their suffering?

The Dalai Lama thinks not. He points to a qualitative difference between your own suffering and the suffering you feel on someone else's behalf. Your own suffering seems to crush and overwhelm you. But compassionate suffering has a very different effect. It brings about feelings of alertness, commitment and determination.

Research has shown that when people do regular volunteer work they tend to live longer and suffer less from stress-related illness. They also report feelings of calm, increased energy and improved self-esteem. Compassionate acts make their lives happier and more fulfilled.

LEARNING COMPASSION

How do you develop your capacity for compassion? Buddhists employ a number of techniques, such as the sequence of meditations known as the "seven-point cause-and-effect" method where concepts like recalling the kindness of others and repaying kindness that is experienced is taught.

But for Buddhists and non-Buddhists alike, the Dalai Lama recommends a simple, brief meditation on compassion. You begin by visualising someone who is suffering in some way. You reflect on their suffering for a few minutes, and allow natural feelings of compassion to arise. Then you focus your mind on how you can help to alleviate that suffering.

On a practical note, you can get involved in voluntary work. The National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre website can help you match your talents and interests to the needs of a whole host of worthwhile charities and organisations.

"Happiness never decreases by being shared," said Buddha.

Control and Overcorrection

When we lose control of our automobile on a slippery road, the vehicle may start fishtailing. When this happens, we may over-correct a few times before we find the spot where control is regained.

Some of us go fishtailing through life, never quite mastering our balance and control. This doesn't mean that we don't proceed in the direction we wish to go. It does make the trip more harrowing and may unnerve others who are watching. There are those who actually enjoy that type of trip. Being slightly off balance may feel exhilarating or may help them focus their attention more acutely. It also may help clear a path for them as others who prefer consistency move out of the way.

When we are under stress of any kind, our bodies pick up on it and respond. Our pupils dilate, the blood pressure goes up, respiration goes up, and our ability to communicate is diminished. Yet during those times when situations feel out of control we may expect more of ourselves than usual.

Pressure has different effects on different people, as mentioned in the film "The Devil's Advocate".

"Pressure. It changes everything, pressure. Some folks, you squeeze them, they focus. Others fold. Can you summon your talent at will? Can you deliver on a deadline? Can you sleep at night?"

Some of us are able to focus with more intensity when we are squeezed by situations as long as we are taking action. After the crisis is over we may come unglued. Others lose focus during stressful times and may be of more assistance after the situation is over. Those in this category are a huge help by participating in cleanup and re-stabilization or by offering support.

Regardless of personal style, when out of control situations occur people may over-react and overdo attempts to correct the situation. It is similar to a pendulum. If the pendulum swings too far in one direction, it must swing equally far in the other direction before equilibrium is re-established, and so it often is with us.

One surprisingly valuable tool for restabilization is letting go. If we are overcorrecting by gripping that steering wheel and jerking it too far in the other direction, letting go or easing our grip for a second or two before making another move sometimes can help. Overwhelming feelings of anger, frustration, fear, or despair similarly can cause us to over-react or become obsessed with some sort of retaliation or retribution. This can be alleviated to some extent if we are able to try to make a conscious effort not to react but rather to respond. Easing up and letting go briefly helps us restabilize ourselves without the pendulum having to swing so far in the other direction, whether it is physical, emotional, or spiritual. This helps us control our tendency for overcorrection because it comes from an inner knowing that regardless of uncontrollable or changing situations our personal control is still our own. We still have the power to decide what we will say and do about them. The power of choice is always ours.

Anticipate a great day. It's Yours!

Energy flows where attention goes.

With the latest example of violence at Virginia Tech, millions of Americans and people around the world are asking, "What's the cause?"

We are a nation inundated with violence from every angle. One manifestation of this is the current ever-increasing popularity of violent horror films. In fact, according to an article I recently read in a major paper, "the more violent the better."

Graphic images of violence in the media are now commonplace, and our senses have become deadened to depictions of violence. Is it any wonder that since Generation Y (or the Internet Generation) has grown up their entire lives watching graphic violence in their own living rooms night after night, that this would be programmed into them as 'normal'?

To add to that phenomenon, as a nation we've spent the last half a decade totally consumed with the "war on terror". Our news brings terror into our living rooms every single night.

As Americans, we are surrounded by this 'war' and yet the greatest terror we experience is in our own homes and airports. I travel over 200 days per year, and I cannot tell you how many times my bags have been 'terrorized' and ransacked...all in the name of national security.

Every single time I'm in the airport of late, I hear the announcement repeated over and over again, "The TSA has raised the security threat level to orange." What the heck does orange mean, and how are the colors decided? I've never heard of the threat level as anything other than orange (as close to red on the visible spectrum without being red). Will it ever drop to sky blue, white or pink? Doubtful. That wouldn't be scary enough.

Terror has now crept into our school system at great magnitude and the message is loud and clear that we must wake up!

In my book Practical Spirituality, I wrote a chapter entitled "Stand 'For' Something Versus 'Against' It." If our full attention continues to focus upon terror, we feed the beast...It's a raging bonfire, and we're throwing another log on it day after day, week after week.

Bottomline: The "war on terror" feeds and propagates terror...Violence in our media and in our homes feeds and creates more violence.

I'm not suggesting that the "war on terror" or any other single philosophy is totally and completely responsible for the tragedy at Virginia Tech. Virginia Tech is the outcome of a momentum of energy that has pumped violence and terror into our homes and minds over time.

The Virginia Tech incident is the REAL "code orange". If we don't wake up soon, it will only continue to intensify.

The only way to stop the madness is to increase our consciousness and shift our focus. And it seems that our friends across the pond are on the right track. A member of Tony Blair's cabinet, International Development Secretary Hilary Benn, said they are no longer using the term "war on terror". According to Benn, "the phrase strengthens terrorists by making them feel part of a bigger struggle." It's definitely a step in the right direction.

I encourage each individual to release the "war on terror" from their vocabulary and minds and begin focusing on "propagating peace". As we begin to shift our individual consciousness, we shift the consciousness of our country and, eventually, the consciousness of our planet. It may not occur overnight, but let us begin...

Pursuit Of Happiness No. 2: Is the glass half empty or half full?

In the second part of a series by Gary Hayden about happiness, he talks about Greek philosopher Epictetus, who says we can be happy even in the most trying circumstances.

Last week, I considered the views of Epicurus who taught that the key to happiness is pleasure.

The pleasures Epicurus had in mind were simple ones: wholesome food, the company of friends and a tranquil life. But what if these basic pleasures are denied us? What if we are sick, hungry or imprisoned? What if our loved ones are taken from us? Can we still be happy?

According to Epictetus (AD55-135), the answer is yes: We can be happy even in the most trying circumstances.

LIVED AS A SLAVE

Epictetus was a Greek, but lived mostly in Rome. He started life as a slave to Epaphroditus, one of Nero's bodyguards, and was crippled as a result of the brutal treatment he received.

He later became a freed man and lived in Rome until the Emperor Domitian banished all philosophers from Italy. He spent his final years teaching and writing in the city of Nicopolis on the Adriatic coast in north-west Greece.

If health, freedom and security are essential to happiness, then Epictetus had plenty of reasons to be miserable. But he refused to be crushed by circumstances. He developed a philosophy that enabled him to endure slavery, disability and banishment cheerfully.

Epictetus' philosophy was so powerful and so profound that it came to be adopted by some of Rome's ruling elite, including the Emperor Marcus Aurelius (AD 121-180).

IN CONTROL

Epictetus was a Stoic—a disciple of a school of philosophy founded by Zeno of Citium in 3 BC. According to Zeno, if we are wise, we must learn to bow to the inevitable and cultivate indifference to circumstances outside our control. He practised what he preached. When all of his possessions were lost in a shipwreck, he merely remarked: "Fortune bids me be a less encumbered philosopher."

We cannot always control our circumstances, but we can control how we react to those circumstances. Epictetus put it very eloquently: "I must die. But must I die groaning? I must be imprisoned. But must I whine as well? I must suffer exile. Can anyone hinder me from going with a smile, and a good courage, and at peace?"

Of course, if we are too ready to accept things as they are, we may not try hard enough to make things better. Epictetus recognised this and emphasised the need to distinguish between things we can control and things we cannot.

The Stoic need not resign himself to circumstances that he has the power to change. If he is sick, he ought to seek a cure. But if the sickness cannot be cured, he must try to bear it cheerfully. Fretting and cursing will only make matters worse.

To illustrate this, the philosopher Cleanthes used the metaphor of a dog tied to a cart. When the cart moves, the dog must follow. Straining against the leash will only increase the creature's discomfort.

Epictetus could have nursed anger and bitterness about his misfortunes: his days in slavery, his disability and his banishment from Rome. But what would this have achieved? In bowing to the inevitable, he was able to channel his energies more productively and find happiness and contentment.

STOICISM AND THE MODERN WORLD

Stoicism has proved an enduring philosophy. Throughout the ages, it has enabled the sick, the poor and the oppressed to find peace of mind amid the most trying circumstances.

But stoicism is not only for the destitute. Those of us who are comfortably off—and have few genuine problems—are often just as likely to let circumstances get us down. So a healthy dose of stoicism can benefit us all.

Why fret when stuck in traffic? Why curse the heat or the rain? Why become angry because a flight is delayed? Far better to adopt an attitude of stoic indifference. After all, what cannot be cured must be endured. God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; Courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference.

Save $79 on Alex Mandossian's latest 'live' tele-training call!

This is about a 'convenient truth'...

It happened first on a warm September evening, back in the fall of 2002.

That's when Alex Mandossian met Al and Tipper Gore in Marin County, California during a live, in-person book signing for "Joined At The Heart", their Owl books bestseller.

After the Gores and their fans left the bookstore, Alex asked the woman behind the counter how many books sold that night...

...and her answer shocked him!

"Several hundred," was her reply. "This was one of the biggest book signings we have ever had," she added proudly.

Pathetic Book Sales For Gore

Frankly, Alex couldn't believe his ears...

Here was the former Vice President of the U.S. traveling from city to to city, hotel room to hotel room...

...and what he had to show from his effort was a measly few hundred books?!

At $5 royalty per book, Al (or any other author) would need to travel to over 500 U.S. cities just to break even with a 6-figure book advance.

What about you? Perhaps Al is famous, but would you have the time to travel around the U.S. like it is the best possible book marketing method for you by appearing 'live'?

Goodness, you'd be bonked sound asleep in your hotel room at the end of the day!

If you're an author, info-marketer or publisher, you deserve to keep reading because what you're about to learn may be the most 'disruptive' force in the book publishing universe!

And if you're in a big hurry with no time to read the rest of this e-mail invitation, just to let you know Alex is organizing a tele-training call on selling more print books faster than you can imagine.

Old Sales Model Now Obsolete

Alex knew in 2002, as he knows today, that a "Virtual Book Tour" would have been a better way to promote "Joined At The Heart" without hassles of the "dog-and-pony show" the Gores endured.

Why should authors physically travel from town to town pitching their books when they could just as easily do it 'virtually' during a live teleseminar?

A 'Virtual Book Tour' would level the promotional playing field so even many not-so-famous authors (who are often on shoestring budgets) could promote their books and even attain best-seller status.

Sounds like it could work, right?

Fast-Forward 4 Years Later

After conducting dozens of "Virtual Book Tours", Alex now has undeniable proof that the telephone is the best way to sell and promote books...even when major publishers turn you down!

He has sold for Harvey Mackay ('We Got Fired'), Joe Vitale ('Attractor Factor'), Gay & Katie Hendricks ('Spirit-Centered Relationships'), Mark Victor Hansen & Bob Allen ('Cracking The Millionaire Code'), Michael Masterson ('Automatic Wealth'), Chris and Janet Attwood ('The Passion Test'), Mireille Guiliano ('French Women Don't Get Fat'), Bobbi DePorter, ('Quantum Success'), Stephen Covey ('The 8th Habit'), Loral Langemier ('The Millionaire Maker'), David Allen ('Getting Things Done'), David Bach ('Start Late, Finish Rich'), Marc Allen ('Lazy Person's Guide To Success'). Just ask these bestselling authors.

Works For Authors & Publishers

We're telling you this because if you're an author, info-marketer or publisher, you need to clear your calendar for Thursday evening, May 3rd 9pm EST.

Alex will reveal his closely-guarded Virtual Book Tour Secrets so you too can sell more books, CDs, DVDs or any other type of info-product faster, easier, better with nothing more than a phone in your hand and on a shoestring budget!

Pursuit Of Happiness No. 1: Epicurus

We all want happiness for ourselves and our loved ones. But what is happiness? How can we achieve it? Is it a luxury available only to those who are rich, talented or beautiful? Or is it within the grasp of all of us?

These are difficult questions, which the world's greatest minds have pondered over for centuries. This series draws on the wisdom of some of them, beginning this week with the philosopher, Epicurus (342-270 BC), who taught that the key to happiness is pleasure.

This doctrine is far more uplifting than it might at first appear; and despite being more than 2,000 years old, it is totally relevant today.

Epicurus was born on the Greek island of Samos, but spent most of his adult life in or near Athens. At that time, Athens was a depressing place. The once-glorious democracy had begun to slide into despotism and civil unrest, and the religion of the time was more likely to breed terror and confusion than provide solace.

Many Athenians simply gave in to scepticism and despair, but not Epicurus. He devoted himself single-mindedly to finding a way of life in which happiness could flourish despite the grim circumstances.

His insights were so profound that he soon attracted a group of followers, eager to put his ideas into practice. Together they established a self-sufficient community, known as The Garden, just outside the city.

EPICURUS ON HAPPINESS...

According to Epicurus, the aim of life is to achieve happiness. In practical terms, this means pursuing pleasure and avoiding pain.

At first, this doctrine sounds like a recipe for over-indulgence, and this is precisely how many Athenians chose to interpret it. They accused Epicurus and his followers of leading lives of gluttony, drunkenness and sexual depravity.

The accusations were not merely unjust; they could not have been further from the truth. Epicurus did indeed equate happiness with pleasure, and wholeheartedly endorsed the pursuit of pleasure, but he recognised that some pleasures lead to pain and should therefore be avoided.

Over-eating gives short-term pleasure, but it leads to stomach ache and ill health. A night of drunken revelling is fun, but the hangover next morning is not. Wealth and power are very pleasant, but the stress and anxiety that accompany them are decidedly unpleasant.

For Epicurus and his followers, simple and lasting pleasures were the ones to be cultivated. Good wholesome food, the company of friends and a simple lifestyle—these were the Epicurean ideals. "Send me a little preserved cheese," Epicurus wrote to a friend, "so that whenever I wish, I might have a feast."

In another place he wrote: "I am thrilled with the pleasure in the body when I live on bread and water, and I spit on luxurious pleasures, not for their own sake but because of the inconveniences that follow them."

The way of life practised by the Garden Philosophers did not consist of orgies and debauchery. Far from it. Theirs was a simple, meditative life, set apart from the hustle and bustle, the cares and the commercialism of the city

...ON THE MODERN WORLD

Epicurus' teachings are still relevant today. The British psychologist Oliver James recently published a book entitled Affluenza, which describes the effects of materialism and consumerism on happiness. He argues that our present-day obsession with money, possessions, appearance and fame damages our mental health.

The anxiety, dissatisfaction and disappointment we feel is fuelled by advertising, says Dr. James. The cure is to concentrate on meeting our needs rather than the desires which advertisers have created. Dr James makes a valid point, but not a new one. Epicurus said precisely the same thing 2,500 years ago.

A multi-billion-dollar advertising industry tries to convince us that we cannot be happy or fulfilled without a new phone, an executive car, a luxury condo and designer clothing, but perhaps we ought to follow Epicurus' example. Rather than drooling over TV adverts and celebrity magazines, we could take the time to enjoy the simple pleasure of sitting in a garden with bread, cheese and the company of friends.

This is the first in a series by Gary Hayden about a subject that is of absorbing interest to everyone: happiness. Extracted from the "Mind Your Body" of The Straits Times.

Hitting the Bull's Eye by Zig Ziglar

Somebody once said the difference between a big shot and little shot is that the big shot was the little shot who kept on shooting. There's much truth in that witticism. The reality is, no matter what our target might be, we seldom hit it on the first try unless the target is low, which means the accomplishment and the rewards will be insignificant.

In bow shooting, experienced archers test the wind by using the first shot to judge its strength and direction, enabling them to zero in on the target with their following shots. In short, archers learn from their mistakes. That's good advice for all of us. Success in business, athletics, science, politics, etc., seldom comes on the first effort. Walt Disney went bankrupt a number of times and had at least one nervous breakdown before he made it big. Athletic skills are acquired over a long period of time and after countless hours of practice. Authors by the hundreds can tell you stories by the thousands of those rejection slips before they found a publisher who was willing to 'gamble' on an unknown.

It's more than just a cliché that persistent, enthusiastic effort produces powerful, positive results, that failure is an event—not a person—and that the only time you must not fail is the last time you try. Whatever your target might be, chances are good that you're not going to hit the bull's eye on the first effort you make at being 'successful'. The key is persistence and the willingness to try again in the face of those early misses.

You can learn from those early mistakes and if you do keep on shooting, it's just a question of time before you, too, are hitting the bull's eye.

* Super Page Splitter *

Super Page Splitter

On first impression, you may think Super Page Splitter is a split-testing software. It is much more powerful in its functionalities.

There's a lot being said about what it can do but you never know how much it can benefit your earning power unless you take it out for a run, and thankfully you can download the lite version.

To summarize, Super Page Splitter is a software that allows you, the webmaster, to show content to your visitors dynamically (without PHP and without Javascript) using different PLAIN HTML pages depending on how they come to your site e.g. search, reading your article, referred by JV partners etc. The possibilities are endless.

1) You can immediately display an OTO page for very-first-time visitors. If they reject the offer, the OTO is gone forever EVEN if they come back under a different IP address!

2) A specific page can be displayed until a certain date is reached.

3) Imagine this: you have a pink widget that sells best to ladies. Normally, visitors can come to your page when they search for "pink widget" or "widget for ladies" (if these are the 2 key phrases you want to optimize your page for), but you want to keep your sales pitch tightly focused so you think of having 2 separate pages for each phrase. Still, there's no guarantee they won't go to the "widget for ladies" page by searching "pink widget".

With SPS's Intelligent Keyword Detection feature, you can laser-target your visitors with the most appropriate content for the exact keyword. Believe it or not, this feature literally wrestles the search engines to the ground!

4) You can target visitors by their IP addresses, or even ENTIRE Internet Service Providers, like AOL or Netzero! Imagine what you could use that for!

5) The current JV practice is to set up a unique page which JV partners can send their leads to so they can see that "this discount is exclusive for subscribers of so-and-so". What if JV partners lose their URL? SPS will find the specific page as long as visitors come from the specific JV partner's website even when the link points to your site's home page.

6) You can target visitors by their GEO-IP location! Got a special deal for Texans? Now you can show them that deal while everyone else sees your default content. Don’t do business with countries known for fraud? Show them a page that says: "Sorry, our product/service is not offered in your area at the moment, signup with your e-mail address below to be on our notification list for when our product/service is available in your area."

7) Of course, you can rotate pages to test variables or for displaying multiple offers for each page refresh.

Frankly, there isn't ANYTHING like Super Page Splitter available in the current marketplace, and that's because it isn't every day that a 6-year search engine marketing veteran decides to make his secret weapon available to the rest of the world from today onwards. You also get free lifetime updates and some very outstanding bonuses including an in-house conversion tracker software.

When you install the lite version, you'll find a link that says, "Upgrade to version 2.0" You get the full-fledged version at $100 cheaper! Just a way of saying 'thanks' for taking a test drive.

Note: The lite version doesn't have the GEO-IP Location Functionality, the Date Function, or the First Time Visitor Function for OTO’s and other things—those are the most popular features, but what remains is still pretty powerful, like the IP address targeting function, Referrer Function, Keyword Search Function, season function (January through December), and of course the Content Rotation functionality, although it's kind of limited without the date function.

Gary Halbert - ranting, copywriting legend...

Gary Halbert

A saying goes that he who projects a tough exterior usually has a soft, cuddly interior. Perhaps it goes to show there are people who know the master copywriter well enough to create this cute caricature :)

I'm taking a little time out to write about a legend I hardly know. As far as this small-fry marketer living halfway round the world is concerned, my initial impression is that Gary seems to be a pioneer of "offensive copywriting". I'm not sure what his usual choice of 4-letter words are but from what I've heard, he writes in a "I got nothing to lose. Show me all your bets" tone, and true enough, he endorsed The Rich Jerk's copywriting because he identified with it. In fact, there's something about Jo Han Mok's copywriting that makes me suspect they contain shades of Gary's style. On the few occasion I met Jo 'live' I should have asked if he learned directly from Gary. Maybe next time...

Gary died in his sleep on Easter Sunday. The tributes are pouring in:

"I have been learning from Gary since I was 15 years old and was blessed to call him MY FRIEND. Gary was one of the greatest marketers in the history of mankind. And that is not an understatment."

John Reese

"You know Eric, Gary had the best copywriting skills I've ever seen. ;) Wish I could do one tenth of what he could do in his writing."

Mary

"That man provided me with some of the best material I have ever seen for copy. He was a legend and will truly be missed. Marketers, if you have any sense of desire for improvement in what you do, you'll make the effort to see what this man accomplished in his lifetime. And what the legacy he left behind can do for you."

Omar Khafagy

"Even before anyone had dial-up, Gary was a highly praised direct response marketer. I will honor his memory by reading a marketing manual I had purchased from him long before the phrase Internet Marketing was conceived."

Akogo

"Sad news...had the pleasure of meeting him and getting a copywriting critique...the man was flat out brilliant. His swipe file is one of my prized possessions. A true legend in marketing."

Dr. Mike Woo-Ming

...Just a few taken from this Warrior thread.

You MUST study The Gary Halbert Letter. Gary is so generous with his content for his newsletter archive. You will understand more than his 'offence' trademark, it is his business experience, humor and personal confidence that pervades his language. Just read "Canine Testicles" and laugh out loud. It's one episode in a series concerning a "water filter" ad so please make it a point to cover what it's all about.

Susanna Hutcheson uploaded one of Gary's famous ads, a weight loss ad.

Although I hardly know the man, I have seen him quoted in other sales pages and his testimonies for other products. If you have learned directly from Gary, please feel free to put down some great lessons and insights you have gained, or simply pay tribute to him. I like to find out for myself how I can be a little more hard-edged in my writing without putting all of you off, keke.

How To Turn Sites Into Money

If you spend time reading e-books, lurking into internet marketing forums, you will see that the one of the most common marketing issue people are facing is: "How To Find A Profitable Niche?"

Then, once the question is asked, anyone will provide information, tips, tricks, secrets...

At the end, you have a big pool of ideas, but you're still stuck with a resounding "So What!"

In addition, you will find a lot of marketing blunders that we might call Myths:

1) Find untapped niches: Of course you can always dream to be the only one on earth to discover a niche. Of course, there will be hundreds of advertisers paying you $10 a click, or $50 a lead, or hundreds of publishers looking for affiliates for this untapped niche!

If a niche is untapped, simply consider it does not exist: no traffic (or really low), no business model (no publisher, no advertiser...)

Do you think that kind of niche is profitable? Could be, but in a year or two. Not now.

Bottomline: an untapped niche is just a mental abstraction of a non existing market (in 99.99% of the cases) with no traffic and no profit

2) Find niches with no competition: Competition is a measure of how profitable an industry is. Think at it in these simple terms: If many competitors want to investigate a market, do you think they are willing to do for low margin? Do you think they will stay in this market during a long time if it's not profitable?

You won't do it! Your competitors won't too.

Competition is your best criteria to select a HIGHLY profitable niche. The more, the merrier.

Warning! Then you need to select the right competitive positioning and strategy. You don't have to attack those competitors directly. But you can find different roads to market: sub-niches, new services...

3) Looking for past statistics or data to identify a niche: This is not really a myth, but a major 'blunder' most and any businessmen in any industry could make. They are looking for external evidence as a stimulus for their own encouragement at 'officiating' a circumstance or situation as a real opportunity. They get on the bandwagon, ride the wave...and then when the demand seems to die down, and a "the fad is getting rusty" feeling arises, they move on to something totally new or unrelated. That's why companies can't survive beyond 5 years, except P&G, J&J, IBM, 3M etc. (read Jim Collin's Built to Last: Successful Habits of Visionary Companies to see what we mean).

Therefore you need to have a vision for a given industry and identify trends to foresee which markets and niches within these markets may become important.

This is not gathered in statistics or in keyword analysis tools. This is your added value; this is where the profit is. I am not talking of untapped niche, but untapped value proposition for a given niche. Bringing something new to an existing market, thus creating a new niche. It might look as a subtle difference, but it's a big one!

This is a topic JP Schoeffel covers extensively in his new 5-volume e-book series "How To Turn Sites Into Money", and more specifically in the 2nd volume. He even shares his most profitable strategy to identify niches-on-demand and a blueprint for creating silo-structured websites that AUTOMATICALLY make you money...

* without your own products or mailing lists...
* without begging marketers to do JVs with you...
* without customer service nightmares...
* without turning your life upside down... and
* without spending a lot of money.

This guy has been doing this for YEARS, and today he's finally willing to reveal everything he knows. "How To Turn Sites Into Money" is a big e-book series (5 volumes and hundred of pages) for a "throwaway" price. It forms the basis for designing his Niches-In-A-Box templates. 4 Steps to Success by Jim Rohn

Number one is good ideas. Be a collector of good ideas. My mentor taught me to keep a journal when I was 25 years old. I've been doing it now all these years. They will be passed on to my children and my grandchildren. If you hear a good health idea, capture it, write it down. Don't trust your memory. Then on a cold wintry evening, go back through your journal, the ideas that changed your life, the ideas that saved your marriage, the ideas that bailed you out of bankruptcy, the ideas that helped you become successful, the ideas that made you millions. What a good review. Going back over the collection of ideas that you gathered over the years. So be a collector of good ideas for your business, for your relationships, for your future.

The next step to success is to have good plans. A good plan for the day, a good plan for the future, a good health plan, a good plan for your marriage. Building anything is like building a house, you need to have a plan. Now here is a good time management question: When should you start the day?

Answer: As soon as you have it finished. It is like building a house, building a life. What if you just started laying bricks and somebody asks, "What are you building?" And you say, "I have no idea." See they would come and take you away to a safe place. So, don't start the house until you finish it. Now, is it possible to finish the house before you start it? Yes, but it would be foolish to start before you had it finished. Not a bad time management idea. Don't start the day until it is pretty well finished—at least the outline of the day. Leave some room to improvise. Leave some room for extra strategies, but finish it before you start it.

And here is the next piece that is a little more challenging: Do not start the week until you have it finished. Lay it out, structure it, then put it to work. Then the next one is a little tougher yet; do not start the month until you have it finished.

And finally the big one, don't start the year until it is finished on paper. It's not a bad idea, toward the end of the year, to sit down with your family for the family structure plans, sit down in your business for the business plans, sit down with your financial advisor for your investments and map out the year...properties to buy, properties to sell, places to go with your family, lay out the year. I finally learned to do that. It was also helpful for my family to show them where they appeared on my calendar. You know I used to have my business things on there and I used to have my lectures and my seminars all laid out on my calendar, and guess what the children said, "Where are we on the game plan, please show us our names on the game plan." So you need to do it for your children, for your spouse, for your friends.

Now, here is the third step to success, and it can be really challenging. Learning to handle the passing of time. It takes time to build a career, it takes time to make changes, so give your project time, give your people time. If you're working with people, give them time to learn, grow, change, develop, produce. And here is the big one, give yourself time. It takes time to master something new. It takes time to make altered changes and refinement in philosophy as well as activity. Give yourself time to learn, time to get it, time to start some momentum, time to finally achieve. It is easy to be impatient with yourself. I remember when I first tried to learn to tie my shoes. The shoe strings, it seemed like it would take me forever. Finally I got it and it didn't take forever, but it seemed like for a while I'd never learn, I'd get it backwards; the bow goes up and down instead of across. How do I straighten that out? Finally I got it, it just took time.

Mama taught me a little bit about playing the piano. "Here is the left hand scale", she'd say. I got that, it was easy. Then she said, "Here is the right hand scale." I got that, that was easy. Now she said, "We are going to play both hands at the same time." I said, "Well, how can you do that?" Now one at a time was easy...but at the same time? Looking at this hand and looking at that hand, finally I got it. Finally I got where I could play the scales with both hands. Then I remember the day she said, "Now we are going to read the music and play with both hands." I thought, "You can't do all that." But you know, sure enough I'm looking at the music, looking at each hand, a little confused at first, but finally I mastered it. It took a little time to read the music and play with both hands. Then I remember the day she said, "Now we are going to watch the audience, read the music and play with both hands. I thought, "Now that is going too far!" How could you possibly do that? But see adding them one at a time and giving myself time to master one before we went to the next one; sure enough I got to where I could watch the audience, read the music and play with both hands. So the lesson here is: Give yourself time, you can become a better pro, you can better master the art of parenting, you can better master the art of managing time, conserving resources, working together as a partner. Give yourself time.

And here's the last one: learning to solve problems. Business problems, family problems, financial problems, emotional problems, etc. challenges for us all. Here's the best way to treat a problem: As an opportunity to grow. Change if you have to, modify if you must, discard an old philosophy that wasn't working well for a new one. The best phrase my mentor ever gave me was when he said, "Mr. Rohn, if you will change, everything will change for you." Wow, I took that to heart, and sure enough the more I changed the more everything changed for me.

So learn to master good ideas, have good plans, handle the passing of time and solve problems, and you will be on your way to more success than you could ever imagine!

Luck's not random; it favours the prepared.

"THE harder I work the luckier I get."

"Luck frequently visits the prepared mind."

"Luck is the residue of diligence."

Quotations about luck are everywhere. We all yearn for a streak of it, especially if it brings money.

Accidents do happen, but when luck is involved the lucky are not selected at random.

When Columbus courageously set sail in 1492, he was headed for the East Indies, not America. He got lucky. Ditto for Dr Jonas Salk when he discovered the polio vaccine.

What we refer to as luck results from preparation and perspiration. Idle, unprepared minds usually do not recognise opportunity. Neither will a negative mind that automatically goes into reverse when an innovative idea is proposed. The lucky pay their dues.

How can you get lucky? Here are a few thoughts:

Be perpetually inquisitive. Search for truth, for answers to questions that are important to you. Listen while others talk.

Network. Get out of your rut and meet new people doing new things and thinking new thoughts.

Be positive. Cheer for those who try.

Diversify your interests. Join Rotary, or another service club to meet new and interesting people.

Be willing to make mistakes. They are necessary detours on the road to achievement.

Maintain personal stability. Unstable or volatile conditions eat up energy and distract from achievement.

Be deserving. Prepare for success. If you don't, it won't visit. If it does and you are not deserving, it won't stay.

Treat people fairly. They will appreciate it and may become an important future resource.

Do not blame others. Ultimately, your life is in your own hands. The blame game is for losers.

Look for the edge. Do not fall off, but try to find where it is and practise risk-taking in non-threatening ways.

Develop role models. Learn more about those who have achieved the goals you are still reaching for.

Prepare your mind for success. Achievement is like athletics. It requires preparation to win. Read aggressively.

Get indexed by Google in 30 seconds (theoretically)!

Here's how to get your site indexed with the world's leading search engine in 30 seconds without you paying anything at all. Thanks to Tim Brocklehurst's tip-off.

1. Download the Google Toolbar (make sure you get the right version for your browser).

2. Install it.

3. Type your website (just www.yoursite.com) into the toolbar search box and click 'search'.

If your site comes up in a new window then it's already indexed with Google. If, instead, you get a window saying, "Sorry, no information is available for the URL..." then it's not indexed.

BUT...the very action of searching for it using the Google Toolbar will have put the Google's spiders on standby ready to come out and inspect your site.

To check Google has picked up your site, do the same exercise again in 3 days' time (everything always takes 72 hours on the web) and see what a different result you get.

Minisite Creator connects the dots.

"Finally! A Quick and Easy Way For YOU to Painlessly Set Up Your OWN Moneymaking 'Mini' Websites...Without Being a Computer Geek, Buying Expensive Software, or Paying Outrageous Fees To A Webmaster!"

Which of these money-making mini-sites do you want to create?

One-Page Sales Letter...
Simple Newsletter...
Affiliate "Showcase"...
Google AdWords® Landing Pages...

Whatever type of mini-site it is...give me
3 weeks, and I'll teach you everything
you need to know to
create and post your own professional level mini-sites, and I'll
even throw in all the software, website templates, and 2 months of
deluxe web hosting
you need to get started for FREE!

If you've been buying stuff and hoarding, and not really doing anything with the information you've collected, this course will connect all the dots for you.

It is the most complete HTML tutorial that we've ever seen. You're shown how to use the free Mozilla Composer to create your sites, starting from scratch, and it assumes you know absolutely nothing about HTML or making web pages.

The focus of the course is creating minisites, specifically landing pages and squeeze pages where you drive your PPC (pay-per-click) traffic. But it goes way beyond that, and if you're prepared to put in the time to learn, you'll certainly be set free from the land of templates and site builders after watching this course.

Unlike other beginners' courses which gloss over the HTML part, or kindly refer you to online tutorials, Jim Edwards shows every little conceivable step.

And I do mean everything. Starting with downloading and installing Mozilla on your hard drive, you're shown formatting basics like how to make text bold and centered. Then from there, you're slowly lead, in baby steps, all the way to crafting a sales page, with an e-commerce system, complete with order page, thank-you page and a series of follow-up autoresponders.

There's a video for everything. And it's very well done.

You'd pay 10 times more to learn this stuff without help. And we're glad someone like Jim finally has the vision and determination to put together the most complete web training course for would-be marketers that we've ever reviewed.

How to remove the Navbar from Blogger.

We have seen instances like this but did not realize it can be done by anyone who knows how. We just thought the Navbar will disappear on its own...This tip is contributed by Jenny.

The Navbar is located at the topmost part of your blogger blogs. Of course, you don't want to give away any hint that your site is a Blogger blog.

To remove the navbar, very simply:

1. Go to template

2. Edit HTML

3. Before Variable Definitions, insert this line of code: #navbar-iframe {height: 0px; visibility: hidden; display: none;}
